What is orthodontics?

The word orthodontics comes from Greek and means straight teeth. It is one of the 8 main branches of dentistry.

Orthodontists examine the tooth-jaw-face system, taking into account growth and development, identify normal and treat cases that show abnormal relationships.

Why do orthodontic anomalies occur?

Orthodontic disorders occur due to reasons such as heredity, congenital anomalies, trauma (prenatal, postnatal), physical agents, habits, diseases, and malnutrition.

Bad habits such as mouth breathing, abnormal swallowing reflex, thumb sucking, lip sucking, bruxism (teeth grinding) can cause deterioration in the teeth and must be treated if detected.
